The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has announced that the ban on airline companies from the Philippines in European airspace has been lifted.

EU Ambassador Guy Ledoux made the announcement of the ban on Wednesday together with DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya.

Philippine airline companies were banned from flying into european airspace in 2010 after the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) found some safety concerns involving aviation standards in the Philippines.

The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) of the United States downgraded the Category 1 rating of the Philippines into Category 2 in 2008.

Despite this, some Philippine carriers are still banned from flying into EU airspace such as Cebu Pacific Air which encountered a mishap at Davao Airport in June.
