Philippine Airlines received last night the first of the 44 Airbus A321-231 aircraft ordered in 2012. The aircraft was handed over in a short ceremony at the Airbus Delivery Centre in Hamburg, Germany.

The Airbus A321 is part of the 64 Airbus aircraft orders made by the airline in 2012 for its fleet modernization program. These include 44 Airbus A321 aircraft and 20 Airbus A330 aircraft.

The Airbus A321 is also the airline's first Airbus A320 family aircraft to come equipped with IAE engines. The rest of the A320 family aircraft are equipped with CFM engines.

Philippine Airlines has a three-class layout in the Airbus A321 with 12 seats in Mabuhay Class (Business Class), 18 seats in Economy Plus, and 169 seats in Fiesta Class (Economy Class). The Mabuhay Class section has a 2 - 2 layout while the Economy Plus and Fiesta Class sections have a 3 - 3 layout.


The interior of the aircraft also comes with different seats from the usual Airbus A320 seats. The Economy Plus and Mabuhay Class sections have beige colored seats while the Fiesta Class section has blue-green seats.

Philippine Airlines operates a fleet of 4 Airbus A319-100 aircraft, 18 Airbus A320-200 aircraft, 8 Airbus A330-301 aircraft, 6 Airbus A340-313X aircraft, 4 Boeing 747-400 aircraft and 5 Boeing 777-300 aircraft. The airline has a total of 76 more aircraft to come.
